I had to post this - a pohutakawa flowering in Hamilton a full season ahead of schedule! I have no explanation for this phenomenon. Okay, maybe I do. Frost-induced temporary madness?
Crazy pohutakawas to one side, this is a great reminder that summer's going to be here before we know it and now is a superb time to get homes and gardens ready for the outdoor-living months ahead.
Here's what happens over winter: roofs get another growth ring of lichen and its progeny develops and spreads. Houses go green and mould massively increases in volume (not always visibly). Windows gain a film of barely visible algae. Paved surfaces and driveways green-over with algae and moss spreads up the cracks and joins. Tackling it all in August and September will leave your home lovely and clean right through spring and summer. And if you treat your home for invertebrate pests at the same time, you'll have no issues with spiders and cockroaches wandering in through open doors and windows later.
Did you know roof treatments can take up to four months to take full effect? Treating your roof now means it will be clean by summer. All that lichen sitting under the aerial (thanks for that birds...) will get the full effect of spring rain washing it away through your freshly cleaned spouting.
I sound a bit like a stuck record at times but it doesn't make this statement any less true: washing your house regularly saves you an absolute fortune on painting. Winter is really hard on paint, it's hard on roofs, it makes a mess of your paved areas; but the great thing is that it can all be managed very easily and very cost-effectively by Green Agenda. Our very raison d'être is to provide a best-in-field service that's kind to you, your home and our environment.
Summer is going to be here very, very soon. Have your home looking its absolute best going into the warm months. Wash away winter with the cleanest, gentlest and most effective service available.
Cheers, Craig
